GED graduate/ACE completer touts benefit of education
Robert Box enrolled at RSC Avondale for the GED® test preparation program in 2014 and obtained his GED® in 2015. That same year, he started the Adult ACE (Adults Achieving College Education) program. He completed the Adult ACE program in 2017.
”I was working full time plus overtime as a labor foreman/ carpenter in addition to being a husband and father of two. It was challenging at times; there were days that I felt like giving up, but determination and grit kept me from giving in. Knowing what doors and possibilities would come with the education was well worth the challenge,” Box said.
Box transferred to Phoenix College and, in 2019, obtained his associate in business management degree.
“Obtaining my GED® and then my associates degree has opened doors that have allowed me to reach my career goals,” he said.
Box is currently working as a construction superintendent for an incredible organization. He believes that it was worth it - despite the obstacles - to further his education as he, “has better pay, more flexibility, and gets to spend more time with my family.”
Box continues to encourage those around him to further their education, stating, “I would like to say having an education is so important. The opportunities are endless, and employers will look at that and see the willingness to go after something and follow through, and it says a lot about the person you are. Although I have completed my time in college, I never stop learning every day. My biggest advice to everyone is don’t give in to the temptation of giving up during challenging times. It is a testament to who you are.”
