Take Your First Step Toward College Success
High school students across Maricopa County can get a head start on college— with scholarships available to those who qualify— through the 2026 Rio Salado College Business and Computer Information Systems Summer Bridge Program. This eight-week summer experience allows motivated students to earn college credit, explore high-demand career paths, and build confidence before stepping onto a college campus.
Designed with first-generation and underserved students in mind, the program is open to all eligible students who are ready to challenge themselves and invest in their future.
Why Participate in the Summer Bridge Program?

Course Options: Choose One
Students will enroll in one three-credit college course
- CIS105 – Survey of Computer Information Systems (3 credits)**
Learn how computers are used in business, including spreadsheets, databases, presentations, and emerging technologies. - ECN211 – Macroeconomic Principles (3 credits)**
Explore how the U.S. economy works, including employment, inflation, and government policy.
** Tip: Check with your school counselor to see if reverse credit is available so the course may also count toward high school graduation requirements or electives.
Program Dates & Format
- June 1 – July 25, 2026
- Fully online classes with live virtual instruction and tutoring
- Students are expected to attend all live class sessions unless pre-arranged with instructor (i.e. summer trip).
- Final live virtual session held July 21
This flexible format allows students to gain college experience while balancing summer commitments.
Who Can Apply?
Students must meet the following criteria:
- Will be a sophomore, junior, or senior during the 2026–2027 academic year
- Have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher
- Be a Maricopa County resident
- Special consideration given to students whose parents or guardians did not earn a bachelor’s degree

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Will this affect my high school classes?
No. This is a summer-only program and does not replace or interfere with your high school enrollment.
Do the credits transfer?
Yes. Both courses transfer within the Maricopa Colleges and Arizona public universities.
What does Maricopa County resident mean?
It means you live in Maricopa County and qualify for in-state tuition at Maricopa Community Colleges.
Do I need to be good at computers or economics already?
No. These courses are introductory and include tutoring and support.
What are the tech requirements?
Students will need to provide their own computer with Windows 10 or 11 or use the computer lab at Rio Salado. Additional requirements can be found online.
What if I’m not sure what career I want?
That’s okay! This program is designed to help you explore options and build confidence.
Are undocumented students eligible?
Under Arizona law, students must demonstrate lawful presence to receive district-funded scholarships.
