Rio Salado College recently launched a new digital badge: Spanish for Medical Interpretation Skills. The Rio Salado College Medical Interpretation badge will be awarded to students who complete the Spanish for Medical Interpretation sequence (SPA205 and 206) with a grade of C or higher. Students must complete both courses with Rio Salado to earn the badge.
SPA205 and 206 are intended for those who are proficient in English and Spanish and interested in pursuing a medical industry career or those already in the field who want to expand their skill set. These courses teach medical terminology and how to manage interpretive encounters and were developed as a partnership between Rio Salado and Phoenix Children’s Hospital. A medical background is not required to enroll.
The Spanish for Medical Interpretation Skills digital badge can be displayed on awardees’ professional profiles on websites such as LinkedIn. Earning this badge signifies a student's ability to accurately interpret important medical information while taking into consideration cultural sensitivity issues that could impact communication between patients and providers.
