On Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022, Rio Salado College (RSC) students and staff gathered at the college’s location on Thomas Avenue in west Phoenix to celebrate its 10 years of serving the community.
“This community learning center has been a beacon of inspiration from its inception for thousands of individuals to achieve their goals,” said Dr. Kate Smith, Rio Salado College President. “Supporting people to realize their greatest potential is the most important work we do.”
Opened in 2012, RSC Thomas offers in-person and live online adult education classes, including English Language Acquisition for Adults and GED® test preparation classes.
Over the last ten years, the center has served thousands of students and continues to expand its educational offerings.
RSC Thomas Accomplishments
- 8,500+ GED® Test Prep/English language students served since opening
- 3,632 students served annually by the Testing Center
- First college location to offer the Business Entrepreneurship career training program
The facility also provides career training programs and workforce preparation activities. Specific pathways include carpentry/framing, plumbing, electrical, nanotechnology, business, risk management and insurance, medical administrative assisting and computer/information technology.
Program partners include ARIZONA@WORK, Department of Economic Security-Vocational Rehabilitation, Chicanos Por La Causa, Opportunities for Youth, Dress for Success and Year Up.
RSC Thomas’s convenient location in west central Phoenix also serves students in the local Maryvale community by offering a testing center and computer classroom, as well as counseling and tutoring services.
