Incarcerated Education Programs
The IRE PEP and Correspondence Education programs provide access to certificate and associate degree programs designed to support transfer pathways and workforce preparation.
The Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC-A) and the Associate of Art Degree (AA) degree offered through the IRE program are part of MyPath2ASU®, a transfer pathway designed for students at Maricopa Community Colleges who plan to continue their studies at Arizona State University.
The Maricopa Associate Pathway Program (MAPP) also supports Maricopa students preparing to transfer to a state university to complete a bachelor’s degree.
The Arizona General Education Curriculum consists of 35–37 credits of general education coursework that transfers as a block to ASU, NAU, and UA.
We encourage incarcerated students to complete an AA degree or an AGEC certificate, as both are fully transferable to a four‑year university.
Students who have been released and wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree through the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) should review the available MCCCD bachelor’s programs.
The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Addictions and Substance Use Disorders program is designed to prepare individuals with the skills necessary to become an addictions and substance use disorders professional. The ASD AAS is a Professional Licensure program. Please review the professional licensure disclosures page for information on state boards and program availability in your state. For the ASD AAS, there are additional courses recommended for students intending to transfer to a 4-year university.
