Rio Salado College President Kate Smith Receives PTK Paragon Award for New Presidents

Congratulations to Rio Salado College Interim President Kate Smith, who will be among 22 college presidents to receive the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society’s Paragon Award for New Presidents at the PTK annual convention Catalyst 2021 broadcast live from Orlando, Florida, April 8-10.

More than 500 college presidents were eligible to receive this award, which is given to new college presidents who have shown strong support of student success by recognizing academic achievement, leadership and service among high-achieving students at their college. Recipients were nominated for the award by students who attend their colleges.

“PTK students bring a breadth of knowledge and experience to Rio Salado College,” said Interim President Smith. “During the past year, they’ve found new ways to connect online and with each other. They’ve demonstrated creativity and innovation, bringing together the larger community to discuss issues of vital importance such as human trafficking. I am grateful to the students, faculty, and staff leaders who make Rio Salado’s Alpha Theta Omicron an incredible chapter. It is my distinct honor to be a part of the great work they do.”

“I would also like to share a special thank you to my colleagues John Bastian, Inhye Peterson, Lily Davidov and Melanie Abts for creating a tradition of excellence through our PTK program. Our students truly deserve the best we can offer, and you have provided immense support and guidance.”

Rio Salado PTK students, staff and teams are nominated for several awards which will also be given at the Catalyst 2021 convention. Stay tuned for news about their awards and accomplishments after the convention.
