Rio Salado Counseling faculty can assist you with setting personal, educational and career goals and help you overcome obstacles that interfere with your student success. There are two ways to work with a counseling faculty member at Rio Salado. In some cases, you may choose to use both.

  • Online counseling uses email for a counseling faculty member to communicate with you. Rio Salado counseling faculty follow the American Counseling Association's (ACA) approved Ethical Standards for Online Counseling.
  • In-person counseling uses scheduled appointments or phone conversations with a counseling faculty member.

Counseling faculty maintains student privacy as outlined by FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) guidelines. Like other college representatives, counseling faculty may release information as permitted by FERPA or in circumstances involving the safety of students or others. Counseling faculty is mandated by Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 to report knowledge of gender-based or sexual discrimination that involves Maricopa County Community Colleges District (MCCCD) students or employees, including sexual harassment or sexual violence that creates a hostile environment on campus.

Academic advisors are staff members who assist with academic information and can help you develop an educational plan and course of study. 

Counseling Faculty is comprised of faculty members who are trained in counseling to help students with personal, educational and occupational skills. They can help you develop better study skills, manage stress, respond to crises and set goals. Counseling faculty also works with other departments as consultants and trainers.
