Book Advances

Book Advances

Book advances allow students to purchase textbooks and supplies using your anticipated financial award money. You can use the money to purchase these items before your classes begin.

The funds are issued to you through the Maricopa Student Refund Program (MSRP) no sooner than nine business days before the start of a semester.

Book Advance Qualifications

Students must meet specific eligibility rules each semester to receive a book advance.

  • Active Enrollment: You must be actively enrolled in classes at Rio Salado College.
  • Financial Aid Funds: You must have a projected financial aid award large enough to pay your unpaid school balance and still leave enough funds for the advance.
  • Opt-In/Out Book Advance option: You must select the opt-in option.
  • Academic Progress: You must meet the rules for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).

  1. Log in to your Student Service Center.
  2. Go to the Financial Aid section.
  3. Find Opt-In/Out Book Advance and select Opt-In.

  • Credit Count: Your book advance amount depends on your financial aid and the number of credits you are enrolled in at the time of the book advance.
  • Dropping Classes: If you drop classes and are enrolled in fewer credits after the book advance is disbursed, you could owe money back

Deadline and Timelines

It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet all financial aid terms and conditions to qualify for the book advance. If you receive a book advance and it is later determined you were not eligible to receive it, you are responsible for returning those funds to Rio Salado College.
