Testing Centers Procedures
This page details procedures that are followed by Rio Salado College testing centers in Maricopa County (AZ). These centers are certified by the National College Testing Association (NCTA)
Note: No exceptions are made to the following testing procedures (Please see client regulations for additional details regarding procedures for your specific exam. There may be deviations for non-Rio Salado exams):

ID: You must have a current, valid and recognizable state or federal issued physical photo ID.

Lockers: All materials and personal belongings must be secured in a locker, including drinks, phones, wallets, hats, sunglasses, watches, fitbits and jewelry. Any exceptions are noted on the directions of the exam.

Gum: is not permitted in the testing center.

Breaks: are determined by the type of exam.

Scratch paper and pencils: Scratch paper and other materials are distributed according to the exam type. NO outside materials permitted.

Timed tests: Rio Salado College midterm and final exams are timed. You may have up to 3 hours to complete the exam. Each section of the test may be timed separately; however, time does not roll over between sections. For other types of tests, check with the testing technician for time limits.

Computer usage: Computers are only used for taking online exams. You may not visit any outside during your test. Doing so, would be considered an MCCCD Academic Misconduct.

Time waiver: You acknowledge the Testing Center hours. Your exam must be submitted by the time the Testing Center closes regardless of your exam’s allotted time.

Surrender all tests and materials: You must turn in all testing materials, including scratch paper, paper exams, formula packets to the Testing Technician/Proctor before you leave.

Test monitoring: You will be monitored by a proctor and video surveillance.

Disruptive behavior: Students acting in a disruptive manner will be asked to leave the testing room.

No children allowed: For security reasons, children under the age of 18 years old are not allowed in the Testing Center.
MCCCD Administrative Regulation 2.4.10 Children on Campus Children (younger than 18) may not attend any class unless they are officially registered for the class. Children will not be allowed on campus unless participating in an authorized college program or under the supervision of an adult.

Academic misconduct: You must adhere to MCCCD Academic Misconduct (AR 2.3.11) regulations that prohibit cheating. If you are suspected of academic misconduct, your exam will be voided and referred to your faculty chair for further review.

Scores: Testing is not authorized to give guidance regarding scores received and/or advise on the next step of a current/potential area of study. Please consult with an academic advisor or counselor for guidance.
- ID: You must have a current, valid, recognizable, state or federally-issued physical photo ID.
- Personal Items: Personal items such as hats, sunglasses, Google glasses, smart watches, smart rings, fitbits, and any other non-approved electronic device must be put away.
- Breaks: Breaks are not permitted during the exam.
- Scratch Paper: Scratch paper needs to be blank loose-leaf paper. You may not use a notebook.
- Calculators:
- BIO Exams: Calculators and scratch paper are not permitted.
- CHM Exams: A non-programmable scientific calculator may be use, EXCEPT for those with wireless capabilities. No graphing calculators.
- MAT Exams: Calculators with symbolic manipulation capabilities, or CAS, such as TI-89, TI-92 or TI-Nspire CAS are not allowed on exams. Cell phone calculators may not be used during exams. Texas Instruments model TI-83, 83Plus, 84, or 84Plus is strongly recommended.
- Test Materials: Any permitted formula packets will be emailed prior to the exam and may be used in print or split-screen format, except for MOER formula packets, which are built into the exam and may not be printed. At the conclusion of testing, all materials, including scratch paper and printed formula packets, must be destroyed on camera. Please note, no other materials are permitted during the session.
- Cameras, Microphone, and Screen Sharing: Both cameras, the microphone, and screen sharing must be on throughout the entire testing session. No cellphone usage is allowed other than as a second camera.
- Computer Usage: Computers are only used for taking online exams. You may not visit any outside sources during your test. The computer’s task manager will be reviewed prior to the start of the exam to ensure no unauthorized programs or applications are running. Including extensions and AI applications. Doing so would be considered MCCCD Academic Misconduct.
- Testing Environment: Make sure you are alone in a quiet place and you will also be asked to use your webcam to show your environment.
- Timed Tests: Rio Salado Midterm & Final exams are timed. Each section of the test may be timed separately; however, time does not roll over between sections.
- Test Monitoring: You will be monitored by a proctor throughout the entire testing session if any technical issues arise. Proctors will be able to answer simple questions about the testing platform, time limits, and approved materials. Proctors will not able to assist or clarify anything pertaining to the questions on the exam. Rio Salado may collect recordings of your test session for identity verification, exam integrity, and training purposes.
- Academic Misconduct: You must adhere to MCCCD Academic Misconduct (AR 2.3.11) regulations that prohibit cheating. If you are suspected of academic misconduct, your exam will be voided and referred to your faculty chair for further review.
