Application

Application Deadline

Prospective participants must submit an application, including your personal statement of interest and an unofficial transcript combined into one submission, to the program director. To do so, click the application button below and make a copy for your submission. Two letters of recommendation should be emailed directly to the program director by the person completing the form. Submit by Nov. 18, 2026. Participants will receive a notification from the program director no later than Nov. 24, 2026.

INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED.

Discover Portugal: Where History, Culture, and Global Learning Come to Life

Step beyond the classroom and into the vibrant culture of Portugal through an immersive study abroad experience designed to bring learning to life. 2027 Study Abroad Program Important Dates

Oct. 1, 2026 (midnight Pacific Time): Gilman International Scholarship application deadline
Nov. 18, 2026: Study Abroad Program application deadline
Dec. 1, 2026: $500 student deposit due to the Rio Salado Student Business Services Office
Feb. 26, 2027: Full payment due; last day to drop for a refund of the $500 deposit
March 29, 2027: Student passport information due to Rio Salado College
May 15, 2027: Mandatory in-person pre-departure orientation at RIo Salado, Room 515, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

May 25 and 27 and June 1 and 3, 2027

Study Abroad in Portugal:
June 6-20, 2027

Post-Portugal Lectures (at Rio Salado College):
June 22, 24 and 29; July 1, 6, 8, 13 and 15, 2027

Study Abroad with Maricopa Colleges

All study abroad program courses are taught by our instructors and are open to students from any of the Maricopa Community Colleges (18+ years of age), as well as community members. Students can earn up to 6 academic credits while studying in cities around the globe.
