Philosophy Statement
Rio is dedicated to diversity, equity, inclusion, and fostering belonging for all. We provide a safe place and home where everyone can thrive. All members of our community have the right to be free from harassment, bias, and discrimination. Differences and unique perspectives are embraced. We invite courageous conversations in order to elevate those voices who have not been heard, open boundaries, nurture growth, and develop as a community. These commitments are to ensure that everyone has access to the opportunities and resources offered by Rio Salado College. We are excited to be on this journey together.

Diversity: Everyone is invited to the party
“Everyone” includes individuals from all social identities inclusive of race and ethnicity, sex, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, language, culture, national origin, religious commitments, age, (dis)ability status, veteran’s status, and political perspective. Through our leadership and community membership Rio continues to be committed to increasing our diversity of thought and experience.
Equity: Everyone gets to contribute to the playlist
To promote success, we are actively working to provide equal access while meeting each individual’s unique needs. Everyone’s journey is different and as a college we will challenge and respond to bias, harassment, and discrimination.
Inclusion: Everyone has the opportunity to dance
We are committed to making space for all to participate and be heard as we are moving forward and growing as a college. We recognize that different opinions are essential to building a strong community. We need you to be part of the conversation and stand with us in this work.
Belonging: Being seen and feeling wanted at the party
Rio is your home, and you are part of our family. We listen, care for, support, and see you. Your personal story is welcome, and we invite you to reach out to others and share your authentic self. Each of us can make a personal commitment to increasing others’ sense of belongingness.
